Scientifically known as Tuber melanosporum, its discovery dates back thousands of years. In fact, it was consumed by ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks, who attributed medicinal and aphrodisiac properties to it. Black truffles are easy to distinguish by their peculiar appearance; when ripe, they are black, as their name suggests, with a violet hue. Their texture is warty, and inside, the flesh is compact yet light, with a certain firmness.
